Secrets of the Obscure or Living World Season 4

The skyscale is a flexible aerial mount that can hover and cling to walls. Choose the newer Secrets of the Obscure route for a more direct unlock, or the longer Living World Season 4 route for its additional legacy mastery benefits.
Route decision
Best for a direct unlock
This is the streamlined route for players who own Secrets of the Obscure and want permanent Skyscale access with a shorter, focused collection. It also gives access to the expansion's Flight Training mastery through story progression.
Best for legacy mastery benefits
This is the longer Dragonfall route. It requires Path of Fire and every Living World Season 4 episode, but unlocks the Living World Season 4 Skyscale mastery track and is needed for certain long-term collection goals.
Collection walkthrough
For the streamlined route, complete Hell Breaks Loose in Secrets of the Obscure. For the original route, finish War Eternal and go to Dragonfall.
Secrets of the Obscure: unlock Who Rescues Whom? and speak to Skyscale Trainer Dyanne for A New Friend. Living World Season 4: speak to Gorrik at Skyscale Eyrie after the story.
Follow each achievement collection carefully. The original route includes time gates; the newer route is more direct but does not unlock the legacy mastery track.
Full walkthrough
Stage 1
Advance the Secrets of the Obscure story until this chapter is complete. It opens the expansion's Flight Training mastery track and lets you use a Skyscale in Secrets of the Obscure maps while you work toward the permanent account unlock.
Stage 2
Spend the required mastery point to access the Skyscale collection route. This is the handoff from story progress into the mount journey.
Stage 3
Start A New Friend and follow its collection achievements. The route asks you to gather comforts, infuse the egg with the needed magics, and assemble saddle materials.
Stage 4
Turn in each collection stage to Dyanne. Completing the achievement awards the permanent Astral Ward Skyscale mount unlock.
Legacy walkthrough
Stage 1
You need all six Living World Season 4 episodes. At least one character must have completed Legacy in A Star to Guide Us to access Sun's Refuge, and Descent in War Eternal to start the Skyscale chain.
Stage 2
After the story, use the mail from Gorrik and meet him at Skyscale Eyrie. This starts the original collection chain.
Stage 3
Work through Skyscale Scales, Medicine, Fever, and Eggs. These stages take you across the Season 4 maps and reward careful exploration rather than one difficult fight.
Stage 4
Finish the care, feeding, saddle, and final collection stages as they appear. Some stages are time-gated, so use the waiting time to prepare currencies, food, and map travel.
After the unlock
Field note · Choose the Living World Season 4 route if you specifically need its legacy mastery benefits or long-term collection requirements; otherwise Secrets of the Obscure is the more direct path.
