Learn the essentials

Start with these foundations, then use the detailed lessons below to turn them into habits.

Core lesson

Choose your role

Groups usually need damage, boon support, healing, crowd control, and mechanics coverage.

  • Read the group listing
  • Tell the group if you are learning
  • Bring a matching role

Core lesson

Prepare before joining

Repair gear, carry food if requested, and make space to listen to the commander or squad leader.

  • Check the encounter name
  • Know your assigned subgroup
  • Keep chat clear during pulls

Core lesson

Learn through repetition

Wipes are normal. Focus on one mechanic each attempt, then add the next once it feels natural.

  • Watch enemy telegraphs
  • Ask short questions
  • Celebrate progress

Pick a role the group understands

Most listings use a compact language: damage dealers provide pressure, boon damage builds provide offensive boons while attacking, and healers keep allies alive while supplying key boons. The exact words vary, but the important point is to bring the role requested in the listing.

If you are learning, say so early and clearly. A short message such as 'new to this strike, happy to learn mechanics' gives the leader useful information and prevents confusion once the encounter has started.

Prepare before the ready check

A smooth run starts outside the arena. Repair your equipment, make sure your build is selected, bring your requested food and utility, and clear enough inventory space for rewards. These small habits show respect for everyone else's time.

Use the squad interface to see your subgroup and stay near its players when the fight begins. Many support skills affect only a nearby party, so standing with the wrong group can make a good build feel weak.

Learn mechanics one layer at a time

Every encounter has a simple question: what must the group do to avoid losing the fight? Sometimes it is moving with an orb, splitting damage, breaking a bar, or taking a special action. Learn that core rule first before worrying about perfect damage.

Wipes are normal practice, not failure. After a pull, identify one thing that caused your death or the group wipe. Fix that specific issue on the next attempt instead of trying to change everything at once.

Good group etiquette makes better groups

Keep combat chat useful: call an important mechanic, a needed revive, or a short question. Avoid filling chat with frustration during a pull. If something went wrong, wait until the group is safe and describe the problem without blaming a person.

Reliable players are remembered for being calm, prepared, and kind. That reputation makes it easier to find groups than any single damage number.
