The briefing

Learn the essentials

Start with these foundations, then use the detailed lessons below to turn them into habits.

Core lesson

Know the boon contract

Your build should have a clear responsibility: which boons are expected, how they are applied, and which players must stay in range.

  • ✦Name your required boons
  • ✦Learn the application skills
  • ✦Stay with the correct subgroup

Core lesson

Support while still playing the encounter

Good support is active. Keep boon uptime stable while moving, handling mechanics, using crowd control, and contributing damage or healing.

  • ✦Practice boon uptime while moving
  • ✦Keep one utility slot flexible
  • ✦Use crowd control when needed

Core lesson

Avoid over-supporting

Extra support is not automatically useful if it leaves the party short on damage or duplicates coverage the group already has.

  • ✦Check the full party composition
  • ✦Avoid duplicate coverage
  • ✦Keep the role efficient

Deep knowledge

The field manual

Field manual

Boon uptime begins with positioning

Many boon skills affect nearby allies or a limited number of targets. A perfect rotation performed away from the subgroup can provide worse support than a simpler rotation used in the right place.

Learn where your boon skills originate, how often they need to be refreshed, and how far you can move before coverage starts to break. Positioning is part of the build.

Field manual

Quickness and Alacrity change how the whole group feels

Quickness and Alacrity are powerful because they affect how quickly allies act or recover skills. If your role is responsible for one of them, inconsistent uptime changes the rhythm of every other player's rotation.

Build enough reliability into your setup before optimizing personal damage. Once the boon plan is stable, improve damage or utility without sacrificing the group's expected coverage.

Field manual

Utility is part of support value

Support builds often have access to tools that solve encounter problems: stability, aegis, reflects, cleanses, pulls, portals, crowd control, or emergency recovery.

Do not fill every utility slot with damage by default. Keep at least one slot available for the mechanic that makes the encounter safer or faster.

Field manual

Good support is measured by group reliability

Personal damage still matters, but support quality is easier to judge by whether the group receives the promised boons and utility through the difficult parts of the fight.

A clean support player makes the squad feel predictable. That reliability gives everyone else more room to focus on their own rotations and mechanics.
